About the Facilitator: Laura G. Pérez
Laura G. Pérez, a proud Mexican and Irish American womxn and mama from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has dedicated her career to advancing educational equity and civic leadership. After earning her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a Child Development emphasis and a Certificate in Chicanx and Latinx Studies from UW–Madison, she began her career as an AmeriCorps member with City Year Milwaukee. Over the next decade, she served in the education realm as a teacher, a Talent Specialist at a Catholic school network, and later as a Special Projects Manager and Recruitment Manager with City Year. Her experiences in the classroom and in non-profits inspired her to step into community organizing, which led her to volunteer as a campaign manager for two successful school board races. She later returned to teaching as a 6th and 7th grade math teacher before continuing her work at City Year as Senior Community Partnerships Director, building partnerships to support corps members’ development and post-service plans. Today, Laura serves as National Recruitment Manager at New Politics Academy, where she recruits servant leaders across the country into leadership development programs and educates them on why their experiences are needed in the political arena. Throughout her career, she has remained passionate about creating opportunities for young people, educators, and servant leaders to recognize their power to drive meaningful change in their communities.
