We’re thrilled to celebrate a momentous win for our NYC Service, the civic engagement office of the City of New York: a historic $3.2 million investment from the Adams administration that will significantly expand the NYC Civic Corps program across every borough.
This funding—the largest investment in the program’s history—demonstrates an unwavering commitment to activating and scaling community-powered solutions, while recognizing the power of AmeriCorps members and service year programs to transform neighborhoods block by block.
What This Means:
Thanks to this bold investment, NYC Service will:
Expand its Civic Corps program to 24 organizations—up from 12 in the previous program year.
Place 60 full-time AmeriCorps members across nonprofits and city agencies working to address the city’s most urgent challenges, including climate justice, workforce development, food insecurity, digital equity, and more.
Deliver critical capacity-building resources to mission-driven organizations and deepen their impact at the hyperlocal level.
Why It Matters:
The NYC Civic Corps isn’t just a service year program—it’s a catalyst for equity, community innovation, and systemic change. Each AmeriCorps member serves as a bridge between local organizations and the communities they support, helping to build volunteer-powered solutions that create lasting impact.
This expansion is especially vital at a time when so many nonprofit and government organizations are navigating increased demand for services amid persistent funding challenges.
And here’s the kicker: this investment marks a major milestone in New York City’s efforts to institutionalize service as a strategy for advancing equity. As Chief Service Officer Laura Rog puts it, this is about “meeting the moment” and scaling “hyperlocal solutions” to uplift all New Yorkers.
America Learns is proud to power NYC Service’s impact measurement and compliance infrastructure through our Impact Suite, helping Civic Corps sites and members track, report, and amplify the transformative results of their work while staying in AmeriCorps compliance with timesheets, member evaluations, and more. We’re in awe of what NYC Service has built—and where they’re headed next!
Let’s Raise the Volume! NYC’s investment is a model for other cities. It shows what’s possible when local government backs service-based solutions with real resources. Let’s make this the first of many such investments across the country.
To our friends at NYC Service: We’re cheering you on and celebrating this win alongside you!
