Yet another AmeriCorps Impact Suite member is getting facetime with the Obama family. This time, it’s Jumpstart.
To underscore his commitment to both national service and early education, President Obama rolled up his sleeves this past MLK Day to cut, glue, and prepare materials for Jumpstart classrooms in DC. The First Family assembled books for children to write and illustrate their own stories in Jumpstart’s Writing Center and created notecards to help children identify the correct uppercase and lowercase letter pairings in an effort to build alphabet knowledge.
Jumpstart’s research-based, cost-effective program trains college students and community volunteers to serve preschool-age children in low-income neighborhoods. By participating in Jumpstart’s year-long program, children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path for lifelong success.
