In partnership with Do Good, Be Good, we’re hosting three-time VISTA volunteer Tanya Burgess to lead a workshop for AmeriCorps members, alumni, and applicants on the best ways to budget and save while living on an AmeriCorps Living Allowance (or less than a living wage). The workshop is taking place on February 3rd, from 9 – 10 AM Pacific.
Workshop Details:
Eazy Peezy Budgeting uses a system of checks and balances to improve your finances, credit, and budgeting habits when living on less than a living wage. This session is designed for current AmeriCorps members, alumni, and applicants who are interested in how to save money and set up a budget while they are living on very little income.
The workshop will be recorded, so if you register, you’ll receive a link to the recording the week after the live session. If possible we strongly recommend that you attend live since the workshop will include discussion and a chance to ask questions.
About the Facilitator: Tanya Burgess
Tanya defines herself as being a social justice advocate, a social change warrior, and a bunny mom. She is currently working on a PhD in Social Work from Arizona State University while developing her own social entreprise. Tanya began studying personal finance while serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA, trying to help people escape generational poverty while also living on less than minimum wage with student loans. The system she developed for herself takes into account the reality of student loan debt, a choice to enter service rather than take a high earning job, and the stress that comes with poverty. She was able to establish a budget, begin paying off debt, and begin saving while serving as a VISTA leader, all while taking on big goals like pursuing higher education. You can learn more about her and her budgeting system on her blog, Healed & Refreshed.
