Thrilled to welcome Literacy Volunteers of Illinois to the community of organizations using the AmeriCorps Impact Suite across Illinois — along with the community of adult literacy organizations using the Impact Suite nationwide.
LVI began by working with just four LVA programs, and today provides an array of resources and services to staff, tutors, and students in some 100 adult literacy programs statewide.
VOCAL – Volunteer Outreach for Community Action in Literacy – expands the volunteer base of community and faith-based adult literacy programs by recruiting, placing and training AmeriCorps members to serve as Literacy Specialists in adult literacy programs throughout the state.
As Literacy Specialists, AmeriCorps members serve as one-to-one and small group tutors, are involved with volunteer recruitment and retention activities, and help to secure other resources for their host site, including books, program materials, and giveaway items for tutor and student celebrations. Members are also involved in special events to generate awareness of and support for the literacy activities of the agency.
VOCAL is one of the oldest AmeriCorps programs in the country and as been looked upon as a model program for years. More than 1,000 members have served with the program! We couldn’t be more honored to work together.
