Welcome to the Community Mediation Service Corps!

We’re thrilled to welcome the Community Mediation Service Corps to the community of organizations using an AmeriCorps Impact Suite!

CMSC is a partnership between the New York State Dispute Resolution Association (NYSDRA) and several non-profit Community Dispute Resolution Centers (CDRC) across the state of New York.  The program fosters supportive local communities for youth by delivering high quality dispute resolution services to youth and families.

School Based Conflict Resolution Specialists develop and implement conflict resolution services in schools.  Members, in collaboration with their host sites, are responsible for publicizing the program; educating school staff and faculty; students; and families about the available services; handling intake for all cases; and facilitate or co-facilitate all conflict resolution interventions.  Interventions are selected by each school and can include mediation, peer mediation, conflict management training, conflict coaching, restorative practices, and attendance mediation.  Closely tracking and analyzing data, Members develop reports for stakeholders and continually monitor the effectiveness of services.

CDRC Based Youth Services Specialists serve multiple schools and/or support juvenile justice initiatives. Members, in collaboration with their host sites, are responsible for publicizing the program; educating school and community stakeholders including students and families about the available services; handling intake for all cases; and facilitate or co-facilitate all conflict resolution interventions.  Interventions are selected by each school and or community partner and can include mediation, peer mediation, conflict management training, conflict coaching, restorative practices, and attendance mediation.  Closely tracking and analyzing data, Members develop reports for stakeholders and continually monitor the effectiveness of services.

Family and Custody Visitation Service Specialists serve at the CDRC host site conducting case intake, scheduling, and participant preparation prior to mediation.  Members also co-mediate cases with experienced volunteer mediators, conduct post-mediation follow-up, collect party demographics (required), and enter cases into CLM.  No more than 20% of their time may be assigned to other responsibilities.

The program will be using the AmeriCorps timesheets, Americorps member files, and communications sides of the AmeriCorps Impact Suite.  Welcome!
